McBride's Performance Leads West Virginia to Victory
Morgantown, WV - Miles McBride led the West Virginia Mountaineers to a 77-68 win over the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday night in Morgantown. McBride, a sophomore guard, scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. He also added 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Mountaineers (11-6, 4-4 Big 12) got off to a hot start, making their first four shots from the field to take an early 10-2 lead. The Tar Heels (12-6, 5-3 ACC) fought back to tie the game at 12-12, but West Virginia regained the lead and held on for the rest of the half. The Mountaineers led 40-32 at halftime.
In the second half, the Tar Heels cut the lead to 44-42, but West Virginia went on a 10-0 run to take a 54-42 lead and put the game away. The Mountaineers made their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
McBride was the leading scorer for West Virginia, but he was not the only player who had a big game. Derek Culver had 14 points and 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Emmitt Matthews added 13 points, and Jalen Bridges had 11 points.
For the Tar Heels, Armando Bacot had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Caleb Love added 15 points, and R.J. Davis had 14 points.
The win was a big one for the Mountaineers, who have now won two straight games. They will look to continue their winning streak when they host the Kansas Jayhawks on Tuesday night.
